My Peony obsession because of Blair Waldorf

Peonies in a bouquet or in scented candles brings in the bliss!

Left: Peonies from my birthday | Right: Blair Waldorf from CW archives

Gossip Girl protagonist Blair Cornelia Waldorf is the ultimate influencer. Besides her stylish clothing ensembles, designer 'IT handbags, and other fashion accessories (I am raising my hand because I start wearing headbands again!), she has managed to unseat my favorite flower, the rose.

In its place I fall in love with peonies, the flowers that Leighton Meister's character often mentions in the TV series. The voluminous flowers come in small round buds that when they blossom into the size of one's palm they simply take one by surprise. They indubitably astound in beauty! And since owning my first bouquet I become completely obsessed.

What are Peonies?

Peonies are seasonal flower plants that are known to bloom in the late Spring (April) to the start of the summer months (June). Historically, they are known in China and Japan as the 'King of Flowers', and often used for medicinal purposes that treats common ailments such as stomach pains, night sweat, or minor injuries.

But in modern times their beautiful blooms are a sight to behold! They are symbols of femininity and grace. And to recipient, they represent love, honor, romance, beauty, and wealth. What is not to obsess about them? Peonies simply brings all that is bliss!

These are my birthday flowers, when my Husband gifted me fifty pieces of peonies. They bloomed at varying days and lasted for nearly two weeks!

Interested in Peonies?

Because peonies are very popular flowers during weddings, and they happen to bloom also during the marital Spring and Summer seasons. Thus, they can be difficult to get at reasonable prices. I would advise to visit your local flower farm or the weekly Farmer's market to find out if you can get them at a good deal. Sometimes your neighborhood grocery may carry them too. Five pieces is enough for a large bouquet arrangement. When they bloom they will completely fill out a medium size vase.

There are two flower shops that deliver them all-year round:

Peony candles bring a year-round of fragrance

Because peonies are seasonal flowers, I often source different candle makers for its scent.

I have a favorite merchant - Monica Vinader.

The hand-poured luxury candle has a very floral, fruity, musky, and very romantic scent. It is made of 100% natural essential oils harvested from Grasse, France.

It delivers a slow and clean burn because of the vegetable wax and cotton wick.

However, the caveat can be the price. Because of its ingredients and craftsmanship, Monica Vinader candles are priced on the higher end. And often times they will be out of stock.

In lieu of alternatives, I have the following cost-effective candle selections.

Here are some of my Peony Candle selections:
